Life Is Not Useful conversation
Ailton Krenak in conversation
Scheduled time:
19:00-21:00
Location:
ASFA (Athens School of Fine Arts), Piraeus Avenue 256, Rentis 182 33
Global Canopy, Press CARNÍVORA and TAVROS, in collaboration with the MET MFA ASFA (Athens School of Fine Arts), are delighted to welcome to Athens one of the most respected Indigenous leaders and guardians of ancestral wisdom from Brazil, the celebrated philosopher, environmental activist, and writer Ailton Krenak. Ailton will read from his recently translated book Life Is Not Useful (Η Ζωή δεν είναι Χρήσιμη, Press CARNÍVORA, 2024), and join leading Greek thinkers in a conversation around the ideas and deep challenges to the destructive status quo that lie at its heart. At a time of political polarisation and disconnection, Krenak offers a vision rooted in interdependence, community, and a living planet, one we are destroying at our peril, with drought and fires becoming an ominous part of daily reality in places as diverse as Athens and the Amazon. This open, welcoming, and discursive evening marks a long-awaited return to Greece for Krenak, and forms part of an ongoing series of dialogues seeking to spark connection, allyship, and deeper shifts in how we live with each other and the earth.
