Educational Programme of Creative Workshops
For a second year, TAVROS is highlighting contemporary teenage voices through the educational programme i-Speak: four cycles of creative workshops, each lasting eight weeks, in middle and high schools across Tavros, Moschato, and Kallithea.
The workshops—covering architecture, visual arts, literature, and graphic design—are conceived and led by professionals in each field, serving as weekly spaces for encounter, experimentation, and expression.
From the interplay between writing and narration to the psychogeography of the neighbourhood, from the reimagining of school spaces to clothing upcycling, the workshops transform theoretical approaches into practice in distinctive ways. Across each cycle, students will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, experiment with different media, and take part in collective production processes, linking their creativity to daily life and their surroundings.
i-Speak does not provide ready-made answers; rather, it creates an open platform of alternative starting points, images, and dialogues. It gives teenagers the chance to imagine, to articulate, and ultimately to assert their own questions in the face of a constantly changing world.
The Workshops
‘Wrote It!’ – Creative Writing Workshop by Takis Katsampanis, 5th High School of Kallithea
In a playful and experimental spirit, students will engage with techniques of writing and narration. As creative writing is not typically part of the school curriculum, the workshop offers a rare opportunity to practise and explore this skill while developing a personal voice.
Using the school library’s collection as a starting point, the workshop will include collective brainstorming on issues of concern to the students. It will begin with the writing of confessional texts to be read aloud in class, drawing either on personal experiences or those of others. The workshop will then extend across a variety of genres—literary, psychogeographic, journalistic, fantastical—as well as experimental exercises in short forms.
‘WeMap’ – Psychogeography & Mapping Workshop by Bend Design Studio, 1st High School of Tavros
The workshop offers an introduction to the practice of visual communication design. Through urban walks, observation, mapping, and creative documentation, participants will generate primary material drawn from their immediate environment and everyday life.
By engaging with theories such as psychogeography and narrative mapping, as well as influences from street art, the workshop encourages new ways of reading public space. Students will identify places of personal significance in their neighbourhood, record sounds and images, and represent them visually through different media.
‘Three-Dimensional Stories’ – Architecture Workshop by AREA Architecture Research Athens, 1st Middle School of Moschato
The word architecture often brings to mind the scale of a building: a house, a block of flats, a school, or an office. This workshop instead focuses on the spaces between buildings: the outdoor, open, public spaces that shape the city and everyday life.
Through activities such as mapping, analysing visual relationships in two- and three-dimensional spaces, and observing the layers within them, students will explore spatial dynamics. They will then propose interventions aimed at improving everyday experiences and promoting the sustainable use of school spaces.
‘#WearYourWorld’ – Visual Arts Workshop by Nana Sachini, 2nd Middle School of Kallithea
Blending fashion, digital design, and pop culture—as well as knowledge from school subjects—this workshop will introduce students to creative activities such as pattern design and printing, clothing recycling and upcycling, and basic sewing techniques.
By ‘wearing’ knowledge in a personal and engaging way, students will develop collaboration skills, cultivate ecological awareness, familiarise themselves with digital tools, and strengthen critical thinking.
The cycle will conclude with a student fashion show and digital presentation, showcasing how knowledge can be transformed into creative expression connected to the contemporary culture of teenagers.
